The New MTA Website?
Your thoughts on the new MTA website?
I’m just glad it stepped out of 1998. It’s a massive improvement that was long overdue.
I’m also interested to see how accurate that little service status widget is in the middle of the page. Will it get updated right away when trains are being diverted? Will a simple “sick passenger” even cause an alert? Or does a whole line need to be backed up? Guess we’ll see.
And they should make that widget embeddable on other sites such as *cough cough* SUBWAYblogger. Area news sites would also embed it in their sites. It is in the MTA’s best interest to make this information as widely available as possible. They should make something like that available.
I’m a fan of the new site.

Like the new site too.. its right on spot. though i would say its somewhat clumsy.. as in too much filled in.
Replyhmmm I think it could be better. I was in london last week and when I checked their website (tfl) it was awesome!!
ReplyI like the potential of the widget. It could be very useful if it indeed works, like you said.
ReplyI wondered around the website and found it a bit confusing, but I ended at the ‘Music Under New York’ page (got to it from the ‘Arts for Transit’ page). I find this page cool, because it tells about who the musicians in the subway are. I was able to find the ‘Saw Lady’, whom I saw at Union Square today. Awesome. By the way, you might be interested to check out her blog – http://www.sawlady.com/blog – she tells what happens in the subway when she plays there!
awesome and helpful website, im sure many other cities will be modeling this method
ReplyI found ur blog by searching, u r like me, I started write abt things are happening in Tehran subway in Iran. nice to meet u, always there are lots of damn things that should be written n finally I hope some one see that and care abt that. I know u cant read Persian to understand what is on in Tehran subway, but I can get u
ReplyYour RSS feed doesn’t work in my browser (google chrome) how can I fix it?
ReplyI liked the website too. It would be really cool if most of the cities have this kind of a widget in its transportation authority website. This current service status is updating every minute (at least that is what it is saying – current as of). Train diversion is still possible though I doubt ’sick passenger’ alert, that might cause panic. But lets see!!
ReplyLove the widget! But what’s missing for me is an attempt at creating community. Any business running the subways would create a MASSIVE social networking and online marketing component. But MTA thinks of this as a utility, which is a big reason why New Yorkers aren’t more engaged with creating an amazing environment out of the subways …. subways are such an incredible opportunity for community building.

ReplyI’m sure that the new social networking push at the MTA website is because someone older retired and somebody new with social networking skills in now in charge. How much do you want to bet?
Replyit has some room for improvement but it looks better then the older one
Replyits great to see you back updating again
ReplyIts definitely a lot better than the old website although I still dont think its that user-friendly to be completely honest.
ReplyThanks
Replyits better, but not great
ReplyThis site is a whole lot better than what it was. More streamline than anything else.
ReplyThe new website is definitely much better, but I think next they need to work on the domain name and get a dot com instead! It's so much better than the .info
Till then,
Jean
