Mind the achievement gap.

Have you seen these signs? “Mind the achievement gap.”. They are all over the subway as part of a NYC Teaching Fellows program.

It’s funny though. Look around you next time you see one of those signs. Does anyone on the train scream “achievement” to you?

We are all just dreaming of the day we can afford a driver to take us to and from work. In the mean time, we’re all just looking miserable as we ride the train.

Here’s another one. “There are a million kids in NYC who could use your tallents. Think outside the cubicle.”

Yes, think outside your cubicle. Think about how you could be in a Bronx High School making far less money. At least there’s snow days.

Live from the subway, back to you in studio…

I disagree. I know plenty of people who definitely could afford to take cabs or be driven to work who still take the subway. It’s environmentally sound, and it’s often quicker than taking our crammed surface roads. Just because people look like they’re in that “subway zone” doesn’t mean they’re miserable about it.

  2. Well, “zone” or not, it’s still a pretty miserable look.

My point was when I looked around the train, based on looks alone I didn’t see any “teacher” looking people.

Also, don’t forget that I include myself in the that group.

So is the “TALENT” misspelling yours or theirs, because if it is theirs then that is pretty funny!
