A sad day.  Mayor Bloomberg’s Congestion Pricing Bill has been killed.  It was a bloody day in Albany.

There his plan fell to a confluence of local politics and a showdown between a mayor who knew he was right and a Legislature in no mood these days to be pushed around by an aggressive executive.

That about sums it up.  Of course state politicians always hate when local municipalities come up to challenge them.  So, they have to kick it around until it dies, then they can look like heroes.

I love how people act like Bloomberg has something to gain by passing congestion pricing.  Uhhh, hello…he’s a BILLIONAIRE.  Billions.  The man takes a $1 a year salary.  He couldn’t spend all his money if he wanted to.

Ohhh but he’s doing it for his political future.  Pleeeeeeease.  It’s such a divided issue that he’s not going to gain much political ground.  If it were to have passed, and was successful in reducing traffic, pollution, and noise then he should get political credit.

  2. Would love to see this happen, but I don’t think we are ready for it right now. Especially in light of the recent subway capacity studies, and the lack of planning for the inevitable increased ridership.

  3. Thank god this thing didnt pass. I can barely pay for college (plans to go to Med school), car, insurance, parking, food, etc. I would not be pleased if they added another something, something to my ever-growing list of things I have to pay for.

    Heres how I saw this whole CP thing coming about. Bloomberg’s rich friends in Manhattan was sick and tired of being stuck in their limos in traffic so they devised a plan to make it look like they were help the every man when their goal is just to help themselves.

    Suck it up!!! The shitty traffic and lack of parking is as big a part of NYC as the Empire State Building lol.

    NYC was never meant to be a driveable. It was always intended to be a mass transit and foot traffic based city.

  6. Sorry for the double post It didnt show up the first time so I thought “sh*tty” was a banned word so I changed it and reposted it.

    With respect, Ive never heard before that NYC was never meant to be drivable where did you get this info?

    The point I was trying to make with that statement is if you ask anyone even someone who has never driven in NYC what they think of when they hear “Driving in NYC” more than likely they will say traffic jams and no parking.
