Person Killed by Subway Train at 116th Street

Around 7:30am, a report of a person struck by a train went out across police radios.

The incident occurred around 116th Street & Broadway on the Uptown 1 line.  The thing we find odd is the report that the person was dead on arrival between 116th and 125th.  That makes it sound like the person may have been in the tunnel when they were hit.  That’s just an assumption.

Typically, people that jump or fall off the platform die right there.  There’s no report of the bodies being found “between” stops.

However, I suppose it is possible that he person was hit and dragged as the train pulled out of the station.

The incident tied up trains for hours right in the heart of rush hour.  Beyond that, not too many details are available.  That makes me think that it was probably a homeless person living in the tunnels that got hit.

  1. China has 16,000 video cams that feed into one police station in Shanghai. So the poor cummunists can afford it. Is there a good reason why we don’t have the entire subway system thing wired? Can we pay someone to evaluate the MTA and get rid of the entire management and run the thing 3 times as good for half the price?

  2. I was on a surface train that hit and killed a homeless man. We were stuck on the train for 4 hours while cops did an investigation and many people onboard had no drinks. Some were diabetics. I feel sorry for the people that got stuck for a long time.

  3. I think it’s sad that a person was killed in that way no matter who they were. That’s a very scary/terrifying way to go. In the even that that happens and people are stuck on the train, the mta should have some kind of emergency plan to evacuate the people on board toward another stop and let them out. I remember i was once going to school, say last year. The train was in the station for about 45 mins-1hr. We were really nervous scared and didnt know why the train was stuck between 23rd and 34th street. We never found out what happened but that was just a very scary thing.

    Sario, I agree with you.

There’s actually lots of room if you know where to look. There’s service areas, and all kinds of spaces.

There’s even entire train stations that are long since abandoned. There’s an old 89th Street stop on the 1,2,3. You can see it in the dark when you roll by. It’s sorter than todays platforms.

It’s packed with trash and who knows what from people living down there.

These old platforms were just boarded up one day and walked away from. In many cases, it’s like a snapshot in time. They still look just the way they did (but dirtier) when they were closed.

  8. R.I.P. Adham. I did not know this young man, but my daughter went to school with him and she is heartbroken. I wish the negativity and assumptions would stop. Bottom line a life was lost. From what I understand this young gentleman was full of life and many people fed off of his happy smile and demeanor, he lit up the room. Instead of assuming let us just think for a moment that if this happened to your loved one you would not like the comments to be fired in that direction. God Bless Adham, his family, and friends.

  9. This was my cousin adham that was killed. He was not homeless. To New York Pork Bun Im sorry that people got stuck on the train for sooo many hours. but Imagine how we feel that we will never see, hear, or be able to speak to our cousin. He was only 17. I hope NY Pork Bun that it was not too much of an inconvenience for you (notice my sarcastic tone and my eyes rolling!)….. R.I.P. Adham we love you and miss you sooo much

  10. I am truly sorry for your loss L. But for you to complain that I’m looking out for diabetic childrens who need medicine and babies who could die without hydration and all the asthma peoples too while police keep them locked up and suffocating in a subway car… you are truly cold. You mock the old people and infants that might die being stranded for hours without water as an “inconvenience”?

  11. Pork Bun. Your comment last comment is a sad attempt at trying to make your inappropriate comment justifiable. Whille I agree that it is an incovenience to get stuck on a train nowadays one must be prepared. Diabetics should ALWAYS be prepared. Sick children should be home and if on a train should have a responsible adult ready to handle an emergency situation such as extra water, snack, diapers, medicine. In order for a person to die without water it would take a long time. People with asthma are just like the diabetics they should ALWAYS be prepared. What I find an incovenience is people like you. So what if you got stuck on a train for 3 hours think about the mother that doesn’t have her son to hold anymore or my daughter who will not hear his voice or see him make his silly faces. Guess what? I am rolling my eyes at you too!…..Lourdes – please let Adham’s mom know that I made purple ribbons for my daughter to give out in school – so if she ever sees someone wearing a purple ribbon it is in his memory.@Pork Bun:

  15. @Pork Bun: Thanks mom! and Tiffany’s Mom I will tell my aunt when she comes back from the funeral we really appreciate your support and I hope your daughter is well. As for pork bun I just wish that you are never in our shoes. I am pretty sure that diabetics carry what they need as well as children and anyother person with a medical condition. Being stuck on a train does not compare to being in a coffin regardless of who lost their life. If you were truly sorry for my lost you would have left your comment at that. I do not intend to have a back and forth discussion with anyone and I hope you can respect that. Thanks

  23. This is adham’s cousin. Jane I find it very disrespectful to ask the details of someone’s death. Especially on the internet. Have you no couth? All people need to know is that he passed away too soon. Nothing more, nothing less. It was a tragic loss but I do not think the details should be displayed in the internet like a circus show.
Patricia I understand you are upset, I was too at first but the blogger is only writing his thoughts or the situation at that moment. Blogging is like keeping an hourly journal you are only going to write what you know at that point in time. I am sure that the blogger did not mean to offend anyone. and thank you for caring about Adham. We really appreciate it.

Like I said I never met him and yet I find myself going to youtube just to hear his voice. To all his friends at school – I think it would be so nice to have a little mass in his memory if this is something you are interested in – please send me an email to: ortiz.jackie@gmail.com. It would be nice to do this in his memory – I will get the school to send a message to the family if I get enough responses. Thanks! R.I.P. Adham!
