Book titles

Here’s an interesting way to kill some time on your next subway ride. Pay attention to what people are reading around you. Pay special attention to books. It is pretty funny/interesting to see what people are reading.

For example, I kid you not, the old lady sitting next to me is reading a dirty book. I can’t catch the title, but it is one of those paperbacks with a half dressed man and woman in a passionate embrace on the cover. Ewww.

I saw a guy reading Catcher in the Rye on the subway last night. I just assumed you had to read that book to pass 8th Grade.

If you are lucky enough to be able to see a page, read it. Some people are reading some sick sh*t.

Anyway, there’s a little tip to pass the time.

Live from the subway, back to you in studio…

  1. oOo! Do you remember “The Da Vinci Code” craze? I saw poeple with that damned book EVERYWHERE for at least a month after the movie came out. It’s funny how people will grab a book only after the movie comes out. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings…
Why is that? What’s the point of reading a book if you already saw the movie? Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

  2. Let me defend Catcher in the Rye. I read it in middle school, college and 5 years later. Each time it brings something different. Worth rereading.

That being said, this is pretty much the closest thing I ever get to a literary experience, so perhaps I am not a good judge. (As if the poor writing and grammar in this blog wasn’t a big enough clue.)

  4. Paying more attention today after your post, I saw a woman reading a something whose title I missed, but i did see that the publisher was “Ghetto Lit.” Reading over her shoulder I was able to catch a snippet of conversation between two women named Strolla and Unique.
