Ok, first watch this video…
Ok, yes that was 17 seconds of an S train leaving Grand Central. It is the most popular video of 80 that some guy named TheSubwayNut has posted on his YouTube page. That’s right…80 clips!
Each one no more or less interesting than the one you just sat through. Sorry, you’ll never get that 17 seconds of your life back.
So this guy just goes around shooting short videos of trains entering or leaving stations. I can’t believe he has 80 shots. If you’ve never shot video before, it’s not quite as simple as you might think. Yeah, it’s easy to just point and shoot, but there is a certain amount of time that it takes to download the video, cut it up, render it, and then post it on YouTube. A “project” like this one isn’t just something you throw together some afternoon when you’re bored. This had to been a labor of love.
Oh, and if you as me, the name “TheSubwayNut” is bordering on trademark infringement if you ask me… 🙂
That’s got “bad intentions” written all over it. Why would someone post that? Honestly, doesn’t this seem like the kinda thing a newscaster would talk about after a terrorist attack? “Apparently the terrorists videotaped their targets far in advance and posted them via the popular website YouTube.”

Yeeeahh…that’s a bit scary huh. Plus, I thought walking around with a video camera on the subway made the police a bit jumpy. I’m surprised they didn’t try to stop this guy.

I am 99.9% sure it is a railfan who posted those videos. Video taping is very big in the transit community. I fail to understand what is so scary about it or has bad intentions written all over it.
If it is who I think it is, he has been involved in the transit community for years.

Yeah you’re probably right. But Todd has a point too.
I think it’s cool. Odd, but cool.

He is a railfan. He has a pretty extensive website of station pictures as well. As David stated videotaping whether it be stations or subway cars is pretty common in that community.

I didn’t mean to say that it’s wrong, just that it spooked me a little.

You know what spooks me? The freaking TV film crew outside my building at 12:43am. I look out the window, and there’s a guy setting up a huuuuuge spotlight on this crane lift. Not used to seeing people out my window since Im on the 6th floor.
They’re filming this car scene over and over and over.

In a sense, it is kind of weird. Just to think that forbid in coming years that something could backfire, i mean, not to be dramatic, but in a world in which anything can happen, gotta be careful.

Look, I am “The Subway Nut” you are talking about. I didn’t like what I read in this article. I am just an 18 year old kid from Brooklyn who likes the subway. I do go out quite often to film the subway, especially during the commute to/from school. Yes, I do get confronted by a police officer or MTA employee and honestly, I’d love to slap them in the face, but I don’t let them stop me from doing something I really enjoy, although it is getting boring and I am considering retiring. I don’t edit my videos, I just film, download, and upload. If you don’t like my videos, stay away from my pages. Oh, and one more thing, http://www.subwaynut.com is NOT my website. I apologize for any confusion it may cause.
