SUBWAYblogger is getting reports that an officer was shot in the subway in Queens.
Sources tell us that at least one cop was shot. A second officer was also injured and taken to the hospital. Not sure if that officer was shot as well.
The suspect(s) are in custody and are also reported to have been shot.
This all has allegedly occurred at the F train in Queens at 21st Street and 41st Ave.
UPDATE: Confirmed that two police officers were shot at Queensboro Bridge Station.
Update Update: Two officers, Shane Farina and Jason Maass, were attempting to arrest a suspect for using a child’s student fare card (shocking) when a struggle broke out. The suspect grabbed one of the officer’s guns and opened fire on both of them.
One cop was shot in the chest, the other in the back.
The officers managed to radio ahead to their lieutenant, who was positioned near the token booth. The lieutenant drew down on the suspect and opened fire, shooting the suspect 4 times.
Suspect Raul Nunez faces attempted murder and could get 25 years to life.

I wish the cops well. If the cops were shot with one of their own weapons this will re-kindle the debate on “Smart guns” these handguns will only fire if the legitimate owner is holding the grip. Unfortunately they only work 80% to 90% of the time using the current state of the art technology. I think they are using the wrong technology for the things which is a pressure test on the grip. They should have a tiny palm scanner built into the grip in my opinion.

The police love to arrest people for minor offenses. The government also loves to deport people for minor drug offenses. I bet if this man was never deported and the police policy was to give a ticket on the spot for farebeating rather than handcuff and arrest people that this man would not have taken the cops gun and shot those cops. People are fed up living in a police state with all the quality of life crackdowns on poor people that are designed to cater to the rich and Corporate America. The NYPD spends millions arresting potsmokers, prostitutes, illegal gamblers and farebeats. Imagine if you just gave them tickets and fined them rather than arrest them. We would save so much money. But the police and the rich don’t like the idea of the little guy getting over for even a penny. This guy was poor, couldn’t afford the fare and he just snapped. You will see more shootings on cops now that the economy is going sour. The police are bullies and verbally abusive 80% of the time especially if you are a minority. But they are always made out to look like “heroes”. It is nothing but propaganda. A couple of bullies ran into a fool and got shot for their trouble.

LOOK HOW COLD AND MEAN THOSE POLICE OFFICERS LOOK. I DON’T LIKE COPS NEVER DID. IF THIS GUY WHO SHOT THEM HAD HIS OWN GUN AND WAS REAL SERIAL KILLER OR RAPIST THEN I WOULD SAY THESE COPS DID A GOOD JOB BUT THE WAY PEOPLE ARE STARVING TODAY WITH ECONOMY, GAS PRICES AND THE INSANE RENT PRICES YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE PEOPLE GOING CRAZY AND DOING CRAZY STUFF. THE POLICE ALWAYS LIKE TO COME OFF LIKE THERE SO TOUGH. WITH THEIR FAREBEAT CRACKDOWNS AND OPERATION LUCKY BAG AND THEIR SHOOTINGS OF UNARMED PEOPLE. I DON’T FEEL SORRY FOR THESE COPS!

I had a few traffic tickets I didn’t pay because I was out of work at the time. As a result my license was suspended. After I got a new job and saved some money I paid the tickets and I was assured that my license was good and no longer suspended. I never drove not once when my license was suspended. I always was a law abiding citizen and respected the police. I was stopped in a checkpoint and the police officer told me show my license, registration and insurance card. I was told to step out of the car and was grabbed and frisked. I asked what was the problem and was informed my license was suspended. I had the reciepts for the paid tickets but they didn’t wnat to hear anything. They just wanted to arrest someone. they hancuffed me and when I said the handcuffs were a little tight instead of loosening them they tightened them till my hands were numb. When I threatened to sue them they slapped me silly. They verbally abused me and charged me with resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license. They said if I complained further they would beat me an inch from death and charge me with assaulting a police officer. They were mean and abusive. I did not have money for a lawyer so I had legal aid public defender I listened to him and pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct time served. I didn’t have money for bail so I would have went to Rikers Island if i didn’t plead guilty, I wanted to get out. As a result i can’t sue them. I spent 39 hours locked up and was treated like the scum of the earth. Nowadays I hate NYPD and I laughed when I read this article. I would have laughed harder if those cops died. Oh and I am a middle class white man I can only imagine what they would have done to me if I wasn’t white and had even a minor arrest or two. Those two cops look like some hard guys who enjoy arresting people even for spiiting on the sidewalk. I bet they didn’t look so hard with a bullet in them!

Who cares how the guy got the student pass, maybe some kid actually let him use it. That station is full of crack heads and drug dealers and the Queensbridge Housing projects is close by. The cops were there about drugs not about fare beaters. They don’t give a damn about farebeaters but they do know that a lot of them (farebeaters) over there are carrying drugs on them. I believe the cop loosened his own weapon out of the holster, ready to shoot this guy but it either fell and the guy got it and used it on them or the guy just was able to take it from him. The weapons are locked in the holster and can not be pulled out like that, only if it was already loosened in anticipation of using it. You can’t believe all that you read in the media. I know the cops in the subway are really pissed off and also some are afraid after what happened to their “own”. I’ve seen cops this evening on the stations as they dealt with the farebeaters and swipers. They are handling things quite differently than how the usually do, that’s all I will say about that.

@JOE: The police were attempting to detain the guy to issue him the ticket for fare jumping. All of a sudden, he started getting antsy and was resisting. That’s when they went hands on. Or who knows, maybe he bolted.
@Mary D: Cry me a freaking river. Just because your ass is broke, doesn’t mean you dont have to pay for stuff. Furthermore, did you ever stop to think that maybe he STOLE that student MetroCard from a kid?

Oh, goodness! I remember taking the F train the other night and there were first delays, followed by the operator announcing that due to police involvement at 21st Queensbridge, the F would be following the V line (same thing I think, mostly) until the last stop where it would switch back to F to 179th.
That’s so weird.
